We represent Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, you may be familiar with our work. If not, we are a charity who specialise in community projects aimed at bringing communities together, developing young people, improving open spaces and helping unemployed people gain new skills and find employment.
We are currently working on the regeneration of Oldham Sports & Community Club (OSCC). This club, located in Derker, Oldham (which is in the top 10% of most deprived areas in the UK) became run down and neglected during the 90's and early 00's due to financial constraints. As such the community used its facilities less and less and the club became a target for vandals. However, the club (working with Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale) is now looking to capitalise on some recent good fortune by beginning to redevelop disused and overgrown areas to provide easier access and increase community involvement. In the first stage of this regeneration we are re-opening an old disused entrance in order to open the club up to the residents of the surrounding area of Derker; amongst others this will involve local schoolchildren who will be helping with the design of a new welcome sign. Towards the end of this first 13-week long stage we will be holding a fundraising event at the cricket club with the joint aims of promoting the club across the community, unveiling the work completed during this first stage and raising money in order to fund the continued regeneration of the club. For our fundraising event on the 27th March we are planning to auction off a signed photo of World Cup winner Sylvinho with certificate of authenticity. All the money will go to the planned regeneration fund for Oldham Sports & Community Club. To bid or for more information don't hesitate to get in contact on Email v.teamb@groundwork.org.uk or send us a private message. Please pass this on to fellow Manchester City fans or anyone you think may be interested. Cheers |
